Over to your right you'll notice a new graphic, an image of a service flag. Years ago it was common practice for people to hang service flags in their windows during times of war. Each star on a flag indicated a family or organization member in the armed services.
I "hang" this flag in honor of my friend in the 3rd Infantry Division, the one I wrote about a few days back. Out of respect for his privacy and that of his family, I'm just going to call him Sarge.
I debated with myself a bit about whether or not it was proper for me to put up this display. I'm not blood, and while we were members of the same clubs off and on in our younger years, that hasn't been true in a long time. Nonetheless, I felt the strong need to make this statement, and with the blessing of Sarge's wife, I went ahead and put the image up yesterday.
You're in my thoughts every day, Sarge. Get your job done and hurry home.
